新加坡總理李顯龍19日起率領內閣龐大代表團訪問中國大陸，媒體報導，由於去年底星國裝甲車在香港曾遭扣留，因此新加坡部隊在台受訓的「星光計畫」是否繼續，受到高度關注。
去(2016)年11月，新加坡部隊裝甲車從台灣受訓後，經船運途經香港運送回國，不料在香港遭到海關扣押，直到今年1月才歸還。媒體報導，當北京決定歸還新加坡這批裝甲車時，就傳出新加坡已經向北京做出承諾，將逐漸減少新加坡部隊在台灣訓練的數量。
針對媒體報導，中華民國國防部則是與總統府立場一致，不做任何評論。
由於新加坡國土面積狹小，缺乏足夠場地訓練部隊，因此只好委由盟邦代訓部隊，一旦新加坡國土遭到攻陷時，星國部隊更可隨盟軍反攻。星國部隊在法國、澳洲、美國與台灣受訓。1975年，當時新加坡總理李光耀與時任行政院長蔣經國簽訂「星光計畫」，根據協議內容，新加坡組建一支由步兵、砲兵和裝甲兵組成的「星光部隊」，定期輪流到台灣訓練，在台受訓的星國部隊又被俗稱為「星光部隊」。
新加坡部隊訓練用車輛由商船運送至台灣，右駕的車輛與台灣車輛有明顯差異性，相當容易辨識。新加坡國防部對部隊在台受訓相當低調，堅稱該訓練為新加坡的單邊「自主訓練」，台灣方面僅提供場地以及後勤資源。事實上，對我國而言，與星國部隊一同受訓，也提供國軍寶貴的聯訓機會。
星光部隊過去受訓營區包括新竹湖口裝甲兵基地、屏東恆春三軍聯訓基地與雲林斗六砲兵基地等。台星軍事交流最高峰，曾有高達1.5萬名星光部隊來台受訓。隨著來台部隊人數減少，目前僅剩恆春三軍聯訓基地一處受訓。
在屏東恆春受訓的星光部隊時常利用休假期間外出消費，由於星光部隊待遇好，消費能力高，頗受墾丁當地商家歡迎；星光部隊所使用的武器裝備較國軍先進、伙食跟待遇也比國軍好，因此時常讓在同基地的受訓台灣士兵羨慕不已。
過去，中國大陸一向採取睜一隻眼、閉一隻眼的態度看待星光部隊在台受訓，但是在北京與新加坡建交後，越來越無法容忍外國部隊與台灣軍事交流，北京甚至提議新加坡部隊可在中國大陸受訓。

炎炎夏日當中，外頭不斷飆高溫，若是待在沒有冷氣的空間足以讓人熱到立刻噴汗。一名網友在批踢踢「Militarylife」看板中表示，回憶起在營區受訓的日子，住在頂樓又沒有冷氣，熱到超崩潰，並且好奇詢問網友們，待過最熱的營區在哪裡？
該名網友在文中說道：「小弟記得我在步校受訓的時候住在二大隊，那時候還沒冷氣，又是住三樓，頂樓的熱氣下來，一整個熱到翻過去，掛蚊帳進去眼鏡還會直接起霧，連睡覺都只能側身躺減少受熱面積」，想知道網友們還待過哪些很熱的營區。
文章掀起不少網友們的回憶，大家紛紛留言表示，「台灣本島應該是恆春基地那邊，茄湖」、「金門坑道是悶熱，夏天會受不了」、「諾克斯的爐艙，點爐後均溫55度起跳」、「南沙群島有營區嗎？之前操演去過，熱到哭出來」、「虎井啊」。
